Cycom Data Systems — CityLaw Certificate Tools

Complete these steps in order. Install the certificate on every workstation first, then update the CityLaw application files.

Install the Cycom Certificate

Run this on every workstation that uses CityLaw to add the Cycom Data Systems code signing certificate. This must be done before updating the CityLaw application files in Step 2.

How to Install

  1. Click the download button above. Your browser will save the file. If a warning appears saying the file "isn't commonly downloaded," click See more then Keep anyway — this is a standard browser notice for newly published software and does not indicate a problem with the file. When the download finishes, open your Downloads folder by pressing Win + E and clicking Downloads in the left panel.
  2. Open your Downloads folder, right-click the file, and select "Run as administrator". To open your Downloads folder, press Win + E and click Downloads in the left panel. Right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator" is required — simply double-clicking may prevent the installer from completing. If prompted by Windows User Account Control, click Yes to continue.

Update CityLaw Application Files

Run this once on the machine where CityLaw is installed. It finds each citylaw.xap, replaces it with a copy signed by the current certificate, and keeps a timestamped backup of every file it replaces.

⚠️ Before you continue
The Cycom certificate must be installed on every workstation that runs CityLaw (Step 1) before you update the application files. If the certificate is not yet trusted on a workstation, CityLaw may fail to load there after the update.

How to Update

  1. Confirm Step 1 is complete on all workstations. Tick the confirmation box above to enable the download.
  2. Download the updater, then right-click it and select "Run as administrator". As with Step 1, if a browser notice appears about an uncommon download, choose Keep. Running as administrator is required so the tool can replace the application files.
  3. Click "Select Folder and Update" and choose your CityLaw site folder. Choose the folder that contains the bin and ClientBin subfolders — the root of the CityLaw web application. The tool searches all subfolders, reads the exact version from bin\CityLaw.Web.dll, updates each citylaw.xap, and saves a backup (citylaw_<date>.xap.bak) beside it. Files already up to date are left unchanged.

Offline / No-Install Update

Use this if you cannot run the updater directly on the CityLaw server (for example, a locked-down production server). You provide the citylaw.xap here, download a signed copy, and place it on the server by hand — no software is installed on the server.

⚠️ Before you continue
The Cycom certificate must be installed on every workstation that runs CityLaw (Step 1) before you deploy the signed file. If the certificate is not yet trusted, CityLaw may fail to load after the update.

How it Works

  1. On the server, copy two files to a machine that has a web browser (for example, your own workstation): ClientBin\citylaw.xap and bin\CityLaw.Web.dll. The .dll is only read to identify your CityLaw version — it is never installed or changed.
  2. Tick the confirmation box, choose both files, and click "Check & Sign". If your version is already in the Cycom library, a signed copy downloads immediately. If it's new, the files are sent to Cycom, signed automatically, and your download appears here — usually within a minute, otherwise return later and click "Check & Sign" again.
  3. Copy the downloaded citylaw.xap back into the server's ClientBin folder, replacing the old one. Keep a copy of the original first, in case you need to roll back.
